Solutions for Successful Aging

I have been advocating for years that everyone needs to have more of their important documents uploaded to a secure online storage site. Your health records, insurance and financial documents, and legal documents (like living wills, DNR orders, power of attorney, etc...).

However, accompanied by all of these is usually a password and if you are really suave then you might have a file or a program that contains all of your passwords -- but does anyone else have access to them if something should happen to you?

A great article in the Wall Street Journal makes reference to this and encourages you to make an online estate plan for who should take care of your online real estate (like your Facebook, Twitter, or even CaringSource accounts) if something should happen to you.

When you create your online account with CaringSource's Magnus Health Portal (or others) make sure you grant access of that information to at least one other family member. Also, put the passwords in an easy to reach secure location. When this information is needed, it may be in a crisis and you don't want to have to scramble for your passwords.

Some Ideas:
1. Most people now days have a cell phone, make an entry on your contact list named after your account (example: "caringsource") and put the password there.
2. For a more secure option, use password manager software like RoboForm to keep track of all your passwords. Usually, you can find a cheap or even free software for this. (I even have one on my Blackberry).
3. And don't forget to share this with your spouse, a family member, or even a close friend so that the information is not lost if something should happen to you.
