We are no longer in the Birmingham area but when we were there, UAB and The Kirklin Clinic saved me! Anyone who is a caretaker knows the doctor appts are endless! It is so difficult to transport my Mother and it was such a great blessing to have all of her doctors in one location! When we moved her to Atlanta, I can't tell you how many times and places I had to take her to just to maintian her! If you are in Birmingham...be sure to take advantage of all the services Dr. Ford listed!

I met with a woman today who was in town from Houston, but whose mother is staying in Dallas. I shared the opportunities for binding her family in one place in regard to the care of her mother (who is in Dallas) and it may very well bring restoration to the family. When we feel like we're not alone, we are able to bear greater opportunities to serve. (a phrase we suggested she use, as opposed to 'burden')

Many other big cities have similar set ups, especially through university hospitals. In Atlanta, GA one of the best resources of information about all senior services is the Atlanta Regional Commission, which you can also connect through their sister website AgeWise. They will be helpful those people living in the suburbs of Atlanta on where to find great senior health care. As for those living closer to downtown and have senior health needs, Piedmont Hospital is known for their great senior care and discharge planning services.
