There is extensive research that links religiousness and spirituality to greater health and emotional well-being. Yet, social activities such as church are often neglected when dementia becomes noticeable. Sitting for an hour and listening intently can be a difficult thing for someone with dementia and for caregivers, it can be especially hard to find care options on Sunday mornings.
Dawson Memorial Baptist provides a worship service for persons with moderate dementia: Providing services that persons with moderate dementia can tolerate and giving caregivers a chance to keep the social commitment to church.
